A Moment With - Jamie

How do you take care of your mental health?

Art and sport are a type of therapy for me so I make sure to do something that inspires me when I’m feeling low.

Why do you think it's important we talk about mental health?

Everyday someone loses their battle and they don’t have a chance to improve their mental health - by talking about it openly and without judgement we are able to lower some of the stigma coming from ourselves and others on the topic.

Favourite self care activity?

Walking on the beach, swimming, painting or even allowing myself just to rest and do nothing because rest is so productive in preventing burnout or mental distress.

Favourite quote, song lyric or mantra?

Your story could be the key that unlocks somebody else’s prison. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

A message to someone struggling?

I know right now it may feel as if there is no way out. Like the darkness won’t fade into light, I’ve been there, I’ve felt that, and now I want you to know that even when it feels hopeless, every part of yourself is fighting for you to survive. Hold on to the part of yourself that knows you’re worth fighting for. You’re not alone and I’m rooting for you today, tomorrow and forever. You’ve got everything you need inside of you <3

If you could have 'a moment with' your younger self what would you say to them?

Your dreams will change and life will always have its ups and downs, but you are so strong. Some day you’ll understand why everything happened and what seems impossible will pass. I’m so proud of you for finding a passion in helping others. I'm sorry we didn’t have the life we imagined but I’m working hard to get there for you. You’ll always have a place in my heart, everything I do is because you were strong enough to get through - I love you and I’ve never once hated you. Be strong in who you are and never lose sight of your values and passions, they make you who you are.
