How do you take care of your mental health?
I make it a part of everything I do, all my choices throughout the day are made with my mental health in mind. Do I need to be alone or could I benefit from socialising? Should I get up early for a swim or do I need a sleep in? I take myself as I am, at any given moment, and try to make the best choices for my current state of mind and body.
Why do you think it's important we talk about mental health?
Because it's a shared experience and our commonalities help us connect. Too many people think that what they are experiencing is unique to them and that they are alone in facing it. When we talk, we realise how similar our anxieties, fears and hopes really are.
Favourite self care activity?
Resting - and not feeling an ounce of guilt about it
Favourite quote, song lyric or mantra?
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. - Jiddu Krishnamurti
A message to someone struggling?
You are not to blame for your struggles - poor mental health is the result of countless factors beyond our immediate control i.e genetics, government inaction, poverty, trauma, the list goes infinitely on. Your struggle is valid and reasonable considering the circumstances of our world today - finding just one bright moment in each day should be celebrated!
If you could have 'a moment with' your younger self what would you say to them?
The only thing I could confidently say would be... Live from a place of curiosity rather than knowing, the world is far too mysterious for us ever to be sure of something. Assume there is always more to find out and infinite possibility for change.
