A Moment With - Mick

How do you take care of your mental health?

I have tried so many different things over the years, the key ones for me are cliché - exercise, good nutrition, sleep, meditation, connection with family and friends. At the moment I am just trying to not be hard on myself, which is something I have always struggled with. Aiming for progress, not perfection!

Why do you think it's important we talk about mental health?

When we talk through problems they become less, when bottled up they become exaggerated.

Favourite self care activity?

Being present with my kids and being in the ocean.

There are no dress rehearsals (Mum). & Treat others how you want to be treated.

A message to someone struggling?

Make one small change at a time. It’s impossible to transform your life overnight so try to focus on little changes each day, week, month and soon enough you will be on track. Don’t beat yourself up, and there are lots of people who genuinely care and love you. Also, ask for help when you are feeling good, it’s easier to reach out on a good day.

If you could have 'a moment with' your younger self what would you say to them?

Don’t worry about what others think, do you! Don’t wait for everything to be ‘perfect’ before starting, it never will be!
