A Moment With - Tom

How do you take care of your mental health?

I find it super important to take a moment to check in and take stock - especially if life is super busy at the time. There’s always a lot going on and it’s super easy to get overwhelmed so to just relax, understand and acknowledge how you’re feeling is incredibly valuable!

Why do you think it’s important we talk about mental health?

Mental health isn’t something that just effects one or two people , everyone has mental health - be that positive or negative! Normalising conversations about how you are feeling helps everyone connect with what’s going on in their lives and the people in them. A problem shared is a problem halved and a triumph shared is a triumph doubled, by talking about these things with the people in our lives we can understand ourselves better and build stronger connections with those around us.

Favourite self care activity?

As gross as it is - to go for a long, punishing run! I’m someone who can get really bogged down by frustration and get annoyed at the people around me because of it - so having a physical outlet to take out my frustrations helps clear my head and ensures that I don’t take out those feelings on those around me!

Fave quote, song lyric or mantra?

“The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.” - quoted from the end of the most recent James Bond movie (bit of a fave series of mine)

A message to someone struggling?

It will pass. It’s as simple as that, life is a series of waves. The highs are high, and the lows are low but both are inevitable and to survive you just need to ride them out and let it happen and not try fight it! But as I’ve previously said, you’re not alone and you shouldn’t do it alone - talk to someone about how you’re feeling! Chances are they’ve felt that way at one point in time too!

If you could have a moment with your younger self what would you say to them?

Chill out mate! Stop trying to get everywhere so quickly! It’ll happen, you’ll get there. Just enjoy the journey of getting there and appreciate the moments while you’re in them - cause you’ll always look back and wish you could go back to them!
