In July 2024, Maddy competed at the NZ Ice Swimming Championships, where she swam in water under 5 degrees. As part of this, she wanted to raise money for Voices of Hope and spread messaging around the importance of seeking help, holding onto hope, and advocating for a better mental health system in Aotearoa.
Maddy's supporters really came through to support the cause as she raised an incredible $3035!
"I know that sounds cliché, but people don't realise how important hope is. Once you lose hope, you lose your purpose, there is no longer anything to fight for. That is where a lot of people give up. The only reason I am still alive today is because of the hope that one day I would get better and be able to use my experiences to help so many people."
