Priya and Sammi's Miss New Zealand Fundraiser

Priya Kumar and Sammi Poole, contestants in Miss New Zealand, hosted a fundraising event that not only showcased their dedication to Mental Health but also raised $1000 for Voices of Hope. Below, Priya and Sammi share their 'why' behind the fundraiser.

"Kia ora!

My name is Priya Kumar, and I am currently a final-year nursing student. Mental health challenges are something many of us face, often in silence. I wanted to support those who feel unable to speak up, particularly our men, who often feel pressured to stay quiet about their struggles.

I believe in the concept of beauty with a purpose - using our strengths and passions to make a meaningful impact. It’s about turning personal experiences into something positive that can help others. Voices of Hope has been a huge inspiration to me, spreading hope through lived experience and encouraging people to share their stories. Their mission to support and raise awareness for mental health is something I deeply admire.

I’ve looked up to the team at Voices of Hope since I was young, and their message of hope and resilience has inspired me in many ways. I wholeheartedly believe that it is the people who help the people, and fundraising for this cause feels like a way for me to give back and support others facing similar challenges. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their mission and help raise awareness for mental health, especially for our youth here in Aotearoa.

With Love, Priya"

"I've been through tough times with mental health and anxiety," Sammi shared. "Voices of Hope was there for me when I needed support. Their stories made me realise I wasn't alone, and that's something I want to pay forward."

"Opening up about my struggles wasn't easy," Sammi admitted. "But seeing others share their stories on Voices of Hope's social media made me feel less alone. I wanted to do my part in helping them continue their important work."

Thank you to everyone who supported Priya and Sammi, we are so grateful for your support!
