Six stories of Hope
Reno, Mekaylar, Rosy, Paora, Whitney-Lee, and Brielle are true Voices of Hope. Having faced their own struggles with mental health, they've chosen to share their journeys to remind others that they are not alone in their battles.
Watch their stories of hope below.
Thank you to the Withiel Fund Charitable Trust and Dreampark for making this possible.

Mekaylar
Mekaylar's story“I think for the longest time I saw my mental health as a disease. For the longest time I was just like, why am I like this? Why me? But after I kind of felt comfortable enough to face everything head on, I was like, you know what? It can be a strength. I can use this to help others as well.”
-
Paora
Paora's story“My main reason is for my future self. I'm still here today and I have a chance to rewrite the story and I am just doing everything I can, so that in the future it's going to be different.”
-
Reno
Reno's story“Why is it important to tell your friends you love them? Because it gives them life. It gives them happiness. It gives them joy. It gives them power, and it gets them through the next day.”
-
Rosy
Rosy's story“We know that mental distress doesn't have a look. It can happen to anyone. And just because it doesn't look like you are struggling or you don't seem like your life is that bad, your feelings and the way you are feeling is valid.”
-
Whitney-lee
Whitney-lee's story"I've never said thank you to him, but I ended up going back to him every six months until I started exploring Māori healing and my own culture. I wanted to be more connected to that through the healing aspect.”
-
Brielle
Brielle's story“I don't think that BPD is talked about enough. It's not something that's understood enough and I think that it's something that people who have BPD, and who don't have BPD, understand that you can live a life with BPD in a way that you can be happy”
